From what I hear, looks like spammers are still making a killing. In a recent episode on Magic 89.9 where people call in and reveal some work/trade secrets, a girl shared that she works for a company with a local office running a spamming operation.
This was only shared to me by a friend so the details are blurry. What really got my interest was how much their spamming operation makes. So get this —
$150,000 a week on slow months and up to
$500,000 a week if they get really lucky. Now that’s a lot!
Not sure what part of the operation is outsourced here in the Philippines but it could most probably be content creation. The servers are usually hosted in Russia or some other countries where authorities can’t easily get thru to (a lot of the richest spammers in the world are Russians).
According to stats from SpamCop, total amount of spam emails in the last 12 months is 1.175 billion; 100.2 million in the last 30 days and 3 million in the last 24 hours. And that’s just counting the ones they are able to monitor.
Raking in half a million dollars a week isn’t an easy feat for spammers though. The percentage of people getting duped by spam offers are going down. To counter-act that, they just have to send out more emails to more people.
