PC Tools invited us here in Singapore with the rest of the other media from SEA to show us their 2011 Security and Performance Toolkit.
The 2011 portfolio includes Spyware Doctor, Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus, PC Tools Internet Security, Registry Mechanic and the new, PC Tools Performance Toolkit.
The entire suite is targeted towards customers with little to average technical knowledge so the price points they’re putting on them seems affordable enough.
PC Tools Spyware Doctor w/ AntiVirus –
Php1,300PC Tools Internet Security –
Php1,820These two packages are the ones they’ll be distributing to local channels in the Philippines but the rest can be downloaded straight from their website (see
PCTools.com for trial downloads).
They also gave us complimentary copies of the anti-virus and the performance toolkit. Could not really say much about the anti-virus (the very first one I ever installed in my work laptop) since there’s no virus to check up on (will have to wait for that to happen).
The Performance Toolkit was the one I was able to use more extensively in optimizing and tuning up my laptop. I immediately fixed over 150 errors in the Windows registry. I think it also shaved off a couple of seconds (just around 3 or 4 secs) of boot-up time after the tune-up.
What’s actually interesting is that
PC Tools is also owned by
Symantec (acquired in 2008) which distributes Norton AntiVirus and Internet Security, a very similar and almost competing product. Reps explain that Norton and PC Tools cater to different segments of the market and they have separate R&D teams working on the products. You can get trial downloads of entire
PC Tools suite here.
